Dogs can have emotional response to anything, and some dogs have big emotions. When you notice your dog is struggling, that is the time to schedule an Initial Consultation with me. The longer you ignore the problem the behavior you are concerned about will strengthen.
As a Certified Dog Behavior Consultant (CDBC), I have the knowledge and skills to work with complex cases. To change a dog's behavior is to help your dog change their emotions to something. Depending on your case, this can include using management and following a plan during the time I am working with you.
If your dog is finding it difficult when visitors enter the home, you will learn what to do when the doorbell rings or a knock is at the door. I talk about this because it has been a top concern for most calls I get. You will need to practice and execute the plan as we help your dog.
Changing a dog's emotions can happen, but you must be willing to be on board with all the training. With positive reinforcement your dog's emotions can change how they feel. Obedience training is not going to change how your dog feels. Imagine if your dog struggles with other dogs, this could be fear or stress caused by a past experience or maybe the lack of socialization. Putting your dog into a sit or down is not going to change how they feel. Sure, you are controlling the dog, but they are suffering.
Often food, toys and praise are given to your dog. But there is more to the behavior modification. With a professional you can learn, where to start at to help your dog. If anyone recommends having your dog close to the one thing that scares them and emotions start up. I would leave with my dog immediately. I have watched trainers get the scary stimuli to close to the dog and punish the dog for being reactive.
Behavior modification does take time, and this is to help your dog change how they feel around a stimulus.
As your local Sheboygan Certified Dog Behavior Consultant (CDBC) and Certified Behavior Adjustment Training Instructor (CBATI-KA) when you choose me to help you, you are on a good start for finding help for your dog.
Punishment can cause a dog to be aggressive and can cause a dog to shut down feeling hopeless. I use all humane training, methods and techniques in my sessions. You too can learn how to help your dog; you can learn how to empower to your dog to make good choices.
How do you get started? With my Initial Consultation 90-minutes for $175.00.
